New Commissioner General of Labour Assumes Duties Today
Mrs. Nadeeka Wataliyadda, who has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of Labour, officially assumed duties this morning (24) at the Department of Labour, located at the Mehewara Piyesa building in Narahenpita.
A distinguished alumna of Gangasiripura Junior School, St. Joseph’s Girls’ College, Gampola and Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, Mrs. Wataliyadda holds an Honours degree in Geography from the University of Peradeniya. Additionally, she has obtained postgraduate degrees in Labour Studies from the University of Colombo, Women’s Studies from Flinders University, Australia, and Business Administration from South Wales University, United Kingdom.
Having joined the public service in 2001 as a Labour Officer, Mrs. Wataliyadda entered the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 2003. She has served in several key positions, including Deputy Commissioner at the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Director General of the National Institute of Labour Studies, Director General of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, and Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Education. With extensive experience, she has held various positions in multiple public institutions.
Mrs. Wataliyadda is also the third woman in history to be appointed as the Commissioner General of Labour.
The official assumption of duties ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Labour, Hon. Mahinda Jayasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, Mr. S.M. Piyathissa, along with a number officials from the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Labour.
