Commencing Duties for the Year 2022

Economic problems have arisen today for the farmers, the state workers’ and everyone in the private sector. That economic crisis has affected the treasury of our country as well. There are no short alternatives to this question. We all have a special role to play at this time in overcoming the situation we are facing as a country and a nation. So we have to get used to living in a new way. Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Hon. Minister of Labour says that the concept of productivity is the best solution we have at this difficult time.

The Minister said this at a staff gathering held at the Ministry of Labour today (3) after the religious ceremonies held at the Ministry of Labour commencing its duties for the year 2022.

Speaking further the Minister said that we cannot blame the Opposition’s general policy of criticizing this situation politically and taking action by some who take political advantage of it. But we are trying to find a long-term solution to this national problem. The trade unions, employers and the Ministry of Labour are currently discussing the trade union proposal to increase the wages in the private sector.

Insurance for migrant workers is expected to be completed by April. The legal framework pertaining to the workers of our country is now being adjusted to suit the modern times. But it will not have any harm to the workers.

Dollars do not flow into the treasury even if this government is removed and a separate government is formed. The government does not receive money.

We must give strength to formulate and implement a national program to strengthen the national economy.
