Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour at Jaffna
Every year, on the first of October, in parallel with World Children’s Day, the Women and Children’s Affairs Division of the Department of Labour conducts a series of programmes. Accordingly, this year’s World Children’s Day Commemoration Ceremony will be held on the 22nd of this month at Vaidyeshwara College, Jaffna.
As part of the programme, students from Grades 1 to 5 will participate in a drawing activity under the theme “Punchi Ape Lama Lokaya” (our small world of children). In addition, a stage drama highlighting the theme of eliminating child labour will be performed to raise awareness among participants.
In addition to the commemoration ceremony, awareness programmes on the elimination of child labour will also be conducted in selected areas of the Jaffna District where child labour is more prevalent. A video production will further support these efforts, while small and medium-scale entrepreneurs will be engaged in discussions on building child-labour-free workplaces. These initiatives are being organized by the Women and Children’s Affairs Division of the Department of Labour.
