The service of a group of employees of the Tulhiriya and Pugoda Textile Mills, which belonged to the National Textile Corporation, were terminated considering that they left their positions as they went on strike in March 1978. Accordingly, approval has been granted by the Cabinet decision dated 03.06.2025 to pay compensation of Rs. 50,025/- each to 2,401 such employees, regardless of their period of service, as a final settlement. Therefore, if you meet the qualifications stated below but have not yet received the compensation, you are hereby informed to submit an application on or before 30.09.2025.

Eligibility Criteria for Receiving Compensation

• Having been employed in March 1978 at either the Thulhiriya or Pugoda textile mills of the National Textile Corporation or being the spouse of such an employee.
• Having had your services terminated during that period due to participation in the strike, or being the spouse of such a person whose services were terminated.
• Not having received the compensation amount of Rs. 50,025/- from the Department of Labour as the final settlement during 2025.

Application forms can be obtained from the Administration Division, Ministry of Labour, 6th Floor, Mehewara Piyesa, Narahenpita, Colombo 05, or downloaded from the Ministry website (https://labourmin.gov.lk/).
Duly completed applications should be sent by registered post or handed over in person to the Secretary, Ministry of Labour, 6th Floor, Mehewara Piyesa, Narahenpita, Colombo 05, on or before 30.09.2025. The top left corner of the envelope containing the application should be marked “Thulhiriya Pugoda Compensation Payment”.
