Measures to enhance service delivery for persons with disabilities.
A sensitization workshop on improving service delivery for persons with disabilities was held this morning (20th) at the Ministry of Labour, located at the ‘Mehewara Piyesa’ building in Narahenpita, under the patronage of Hon. Sugath Wasantha de Silva, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Parliamentary Caucus on Persons with Disabilities. The Minister of Labour, Hon. Anil Jayantha Fernando, participated as the Chief Guest of the event.
This workshop was organized by the Ministry of Labour, with financial support from Australian Aid and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), targeting staff officers engaged in public-facing services within the Ministry and its affiliated institutions.
As the first in a series of workshops planned to be conducted across all ministries, this inaugural session included discussions led by participating persons with disabilities on the various challenging experiences they face in society, as well as the obstacles encountered in accessing employment opportunities. A notable feature of the programme was that the resource persons and facilitators themselves were persons with disabilities.
