The Performance Evaluation Program of the officers of the Department of Labour was held recently (11 September 2026) at the Auditorium, Department of Labour, Mehewara Piyesa, Narahenpita, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labour, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, and the Deputy Minister, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe.

The theme of this program, which was attended by about 200 officers, was “Together for Excellence.”

This program was organized to appreciate the performance of the offices and the officers working in those offices who performed their duties more actively and dedicatedly, with the aim of creating professional motivation among the officers working in the Department of Labour and increasing the quality and efficiency of the services. This year’s evaluation was based on the performance of 2025, and the Department of Labour expects to continue this performance evaluation program annually.

The criteria for the evaluations were prepared based on the role of the Department’s divisions, zonal offices, district offices, and engineering offices. Based on the number of active institutions paying the Employee Provident Fund, the district sub-labour offices and regional labour offices were classified under three categories and their performance was evaluated, while the district factory inspection engineer offices were evaluated under two categories according to the installed factory capacity, and all sections of the department were evaluated under two categories. According to the criteria selected by the main committee and ten sub-committees, 11 regional offices, 40 district labour offices, 17 sub-labour offices, 27 divisions of the department, and 10 engineering offices were evaluated, and certificates were awarded to the selected offices.

Commissioner General of Labour, Mrs. Nadika Wataliyedda, and many officials also participated in this program, which was made colourful with many cultural elements.
